Activity Description (Procedure)
Using media materials - explanatory videos - participants will discover certain aspects related to environmental pollution and the impact of deforestation on it.
The participants will explore the local horizon, visiting the bed of the Otasau river that crosses the village, with the aim of identifying polluting factors.
Also, the environment will be presented by describing several aspects related to hydrology, geology, vegetation and animals specific to the local horizon.
Science Activities
• studying the herbarium and the botanical atlas to identify the plants in the local horizon,
• students will identify certain characteristics of plants using multiple senses:
- smell: they will smell to identify plants,
- see: they will compare the structure of the flowers, leaves, seeds of the plants, in the local horizon. And then: Compare it!
- touched: they will touch the plants, making differences.
• experiments:
1. I prepared two containers in which I introduced soil. On the surface of one I placed a furrow of vegetation, the other remaining uncovered. I simultaneously poured water into the two devices and found that the water that went through the container that had the vegetation on top was very clear, while the water that went through the second container was very cloudy. This experiment demonstrates the importance of vegetation and forests in protecting the environment.
2. Using litmus paper, we determined the ph index of the local water, taking water samples from our river and from the tap.
3. Water diffusion: using the napkins, water and dye, I made this simple experiment to show the principle of capillarity and the diffusion of water
