Activity Description (Procedure)
Carrying out the activity:
Water is essential for sustaining life on Earth and it is considered the source of life. In the Librarie’s program ~Baby-library~ we decided to read stories and carry out with the children three experiments using water.
First experiment
• The 0-3 year old children performed an experiment using the following materials: water, pepper, washing-up liquid, disposable plates.
Realization method:
To start, we read a book that is related to the theme of the program - whether it's water or colors. I chose for one of the meetings the book ~ Pete the Cat- I Love My White Shoes~ by Eric Litwin
After the reading, we prepare to cast spells...
We put water in a disposable plate, then added ground pepper. Each child touched the middle of the plate with a finger soaked in dish detergent. The ground pepper retreated to the edge of the plate.
Through this experiment, I showed the children the importance of using cleaning solutions. By using soap and water correctly, we destroy all microbes.
Second experiment
To start, we read a book that is related to the theme of the program - whether it's water or colors. I chose for one of the meetings the book -Thumbelina, written by H.Ch. Andersen. After the reading, we prepare to cast spells...
• The 0-3 year old children performed an experiment using the following materials: water, coloured candies, disposable plates.
Realization method: The children place the coloured candies on the edge of the plate and then add water. The candies start to discolor and a rainbow appears on the plate. Each child made his own rainbow using his favorite colors.
Third experiment
To start, we read a book that is related to the theme of the program - whether it's water or colors. I chose for one of the meetings the book ~ The very hunger caterpilar ~ by Eric Carle. After the reading, we prepare to cast spells...
• The 2 - 4 year old children performed an experiment using the following materials: napkins, markers, plate, water.
Realization method: Following the librarian's instructions, the children colored the napkins, twisted them into caterpillars and placed them on the plate. Sprinkled with water, they rose slightly and the colors diffused onto the napkins.
